Birdwatching in Thailand
Thailand is known as zoological crossroad in Asia as there are more than 970 bird species which is about 10% of the world species. The people from the birdwatching societies and organizations agree that Thailand offers some of the best opportunities for birdwatching in the world. The reason is that Thailand has unique geographical location and topographical diversity. In addition, birdwatching in Thailand can be practiced throughout the year in several areas of the country. Even though Thailand has very big diversity of bird species, sometimes it can be little tricky to get a good view of the birds. Some of the birds in Thailand can only be seen in wild forests and jungles and simplest thing to do is to walk quietly in order not to frighten the birds.
If you are not so experienced or a beginner in birding, the best thing you can do is to go together with an experienced person or to hire a guide. Some of the species can be observed in most of national parks in Thailand. The best period of the year for birdwatching in Thailand is between December and February. During these three months you can observe the coming winter birds from the North that join the resident species. A drawback during this period is that this is the peak of the tourist season and accommodation can be a problem, so try to book in advance.
